Lists are a good thing

I start my routine each weekday morning by making a list of things to accomplish that day. Some are boring "have tos" and others are "need tos" or "want tos". I try to have a couple from each category each day. When I scratch off a have to, I reward my self with some time on a want to. I do tend to put a few too many things on my list then end up carrying items over to the next day. That works because I use a week at a glance list. Here is last week's. There was nothing listed Thursday & Friday because they (Thanksgiving and the day after) were play days. Sometimes I get back to highlight a done item but not always. After trying many types of lists... this seems to work the best for me.

To help me with my goal of stash reduction and getting my quilting projects under control, I made a list of my current UFO's (UnFinished Objects in quiltspeak). I was hoping it was in the 15 items range.... sigh, but no. Here is what I could find. I have a feeling I might have missed a couple.

1)Blue and gold slice and dice - blocks partially completed
2)Red, white and green 1/2 sq block sampler - blocks done
3)Music 9 patch pizzazz - top done except for applique quote in border
4)Hummingbird leader and ender quilt - needs borders
5)Blue and green sampler - needs borders
6)Batik QFAH - needs 3 more borders
7)Brown Bargello - strip sets sewn, need to cut apart and stagger
8)Rainbow log cabin - needs borders
9)Red and gold mystery - blocks and sashing strips done
10)Bird house BOM - blocks done
11)Country red, tan & blue 4 patch charm quilt - blocks partially completed
12)Chei Moi charm quilt - blocks done
13)Pastel floral basket weave - blocks together, needs setting triangles and borders
14)Fall Foliage diamond colorwash - just started
15) Christmas Roman candle - blocks done
16) Round robin #1 - fix last border, then quilt
17) Woodland Spirits applique - Working on block #3 (of 9)
18)Fish stack & wack - top done, backing done, needs quilting
19)Round robin #2 - needs quilting
20)Grandmothers flower garden English paper piecing- blocks done
21)RWB 30's repro sampler - some blocks done
22)Blue and yellow ugly fabric challenge quilt - top and backing done, needs quilting
23)My oldest UFO.. a green, blue and red log cabin - needs borders

So as you can see, I really need to think twice before starting another project. Perhaps I will reward myself with a new start (using stash, of course!!) for each 2-3 projects I complete. The end result would still be a reduction! LOL

The really good news is I just completed my 3rd successful week of the Stashbusters no buy challenge. Woohoo! I CAN do this.

That list is definitely something that you can make great progress towards finishing. Not so many that you know you'll never finish them but enough to keep you on track. Three weeks with no purchases if really good!

I am working towards your number of UFOs. LOL I have 79 on my list right now. I hope to have 2 more off before the end of the year!
Keep on making progress.

I'm a big list maker too although sometimes it's just written in my head. The last couple years I was pretty good about finishing two UFO's before allowing myself to start a new project but this year with HeartStrings, I've started as many as I've finished.

Those are my two big focuses other than HeartStrings, stash reduction and UFO completion.
